Internship structure: theory and practical

Four Seasons internships combine theory and practice, to help you learn the science and art of growing quality food.

DGC Sales Page1 WS1Part 1 of the internship is a 3-week introduction to key principles and practices of growing food that is healthy, eco-friendly, toxin-free and nutrient-rich. You will have opportunities to being applying these principles in practical growing situations. 

Part 2 of the internship provides an opportunity for you to design and direct your own ongoing learning, with support from internship facilitator/educators who have in-depth knowledge in your specific areas of interest. 

Throughout the internship, you will have opportunities to apply principles, skills & knowledge as you learn them to practical activities in our Four Seasons Farms Community Food & Seed Garden and on internship hosts’ properties.

Live in Northland, New Zealand during your internship

Four Seasons Farms members will host you during your internship. All members live in Northland, New Zealand, with a core group based in the Kerikeri/Bay of Islands region.   

You will stay with at least two different hosts during your internship. You will participate in practical activities on the internship host properties and in the Four Seasons Farms Community Food & Seed Garden.

This provides you an opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills you learn in multiple situations, for a more in-depth learning experience. It also enables you to build relationships with your host families, other Four Seasons Farms members and other interns through group activities.

Hosts provide you with food and accommodation, in exchange for you helping with practical activities on their properties and in the group’s community food & seed garden.

Our internships provide you with a unique opportunity to learn how to work with this approach theoretically and practically, applying knowledge and skills as you learn them in diverse food growing situations.
